I have a 1970 am/fm radio and 8 track player that sound fine by themselves. However when using the same speakers for both radio and player there seems to be a lot of distortion. The problem is eliminated if I run seperate speaker systems for each but this doesn't seem practical. Any help would be greatly apprectiated. Thanks in advance

If you are using common speakers for each unit then you need some type of switching system so that when the AM/FM radio is on it disconnects all the speaker wires from the 8 track player and visa-versa.
You can get by with a multi-pole toggle switch or slide switch or by using a multi-pole relay.
You want to switch all the speaker wires between both units to be on the safe side not just the positive wires.
Without a switching device you can damage one or both of the units.
