hey guys,

i have a non matching numbers 72 chevelle SS454 with a 454 from a truck. I recently found a different 72 chevelle 454 engine with casting number from 72, its all correct. Will my car be worth more with that 72 chevelle engine in it or does really not matter? Is it almost the same as having a matching numbers engine?

thanks

If the '72 engine has all the correct accessories (air filter alternator brackets etc.) I think your car would be worth more. If some one wants to buy your car and knows what to look for it might turn them away without the correct engine and accessories.

If I were buying a '72 Chevelle SS454, I'd sure pay more for the same car if it had a NOM '72 Chevelle 454 engine rather than one with a truck 454. I'd know it was correct (assuming it hadn't been modified) for the car with the correct internals, compression ratio, heads, etc. The only thing different from the original engine would be the numbers/letters stamped into the block and date code cast into the block/heads. Even some of those could be correct.

After all is said and done. The car is still not original so in the end, your still at the same spot as where you started. The only thing I can see with the advantage of using a Chevelle engine in there, is its an LS-5 and did have internals like a steel crank. Better heads, etc. Im not sure what the truck engine would have or if anything is different. So from a performance standpoint, the Chevelle engine could be a better starting point if you or someone wanted to add some HP on the Chevelle motor.

IMHO I don't think it's going to increase your cars value very much either. Especialy when you have to pull your old one, rebuild the new one ($$'s), and install it. You may have spent more than it increased the value if any at all.
