I am removing the a/c out of my 70 chevelle never to put it back in again. The hole will be covered by a American Graffiti delete box but i am also thinking of getting new wiring harnesses for the car.
The question is...do i still have to use a a/c wiring harness or would a harness fom a non a/c car work instead? Im trying to get rid of anything and everything a/c out of my car and need to know if this will work or if it wont? If it will work, is there anything i need to change at all? Thanks in advance!

The A/C harness is an option harness that plugs into the regular dash harness. If you have the heat only switch and levers, the existing dash harness will work. Installing the heat only assembly, plugging in the existing harness, adding in the blower resistor under the dash, and hooking up the orange wire to the blower motor pretty much makes it a non A/C setup.

John I’m thinking that the heat only box will not line up with the American Graffiti firewall unit. The heater core hose connections are in different locations.

The problem you will have is that the old housing that you removed has a resistor assembly that is needed for blower speeds below high. The resistors need to be installed in the airflow to keep them cool and also to keep them from burning something else.

One option would be to use the smaller heat only blower and wire it for high speed only. Eliminating the need for the speed resistors. The heat only blower is smaller, draws less current and delivers less airflow.

What you want to do can be done however you won’t find reproduction harnesses to accommodate your needs. Some harness manufacturers will modify to fit users needs. I’m just not sure if they would be familiar enough with the actual switches, relays and motors to help design what you need/want.

I’ll offer this. I can make up special wiring and resistors to accommodate your needs. It will require using the smaller blower motor. E-mail if interested.

I replaced my engine and front light harness and removed my a/c. As mentioned, the a/c harness is separate and is needed for fan speeds, blower, etc. The engine harness I purchased was for a a/c car. I bought this one just in case I, or anyone else, wanted to put back in the a/c. I tucked the unused compressor wires away into corrugated/split tubing.
