Hello!

I got my rebuild 67 396 back into the car. The engine is restored to it´s original specs with a new Rochester Quadra-jet and new original choke.
My problem is, the choke linkage is different as shown in the chassis service manual. In the manual the rod should pull down and i should bend the linkage- which is slightly different than mine.

My choke coil moves the rod up when i heated it up with a lighter, is that right? I thought it should pull aggain the vacuum and shut the flap? I heard about different q-jets with different linkages, maybe someone give me an advice to adjust this linkage?

thank you very much, tobi!

if the coil pushes the rod up it's wrong. there's several of these and the six cylinder ones look just like the V-8 ones but wind up the other way.

You might be able to reverse it by pulling the coil off the mount and turning it around.

Hi, thank you for your reply.

Service manual shows two different chokes, one moves the rod up when engine is hot, the other pulls down.
The choke flap in front of the carb should be open when the engine is hot and i push the gas, am i right? Should the choke coil work aggainst the vacuum? I think the coil is not strong enough for that?

thank you
