I have a 70 Chevelle with a 325HP 402 BBC. I would like to replace the Q jet with a modern/efficient carb. The car has cowl induction with proper stock air cleaner that I want to retain. I'm not interested in going EFI. Looking for recommendations.
Thanks

You already have the most driver friendly and efficient carb available. It may be worn, it may be out of tune for your combination, but if you spend some time rather than money you will come out ahead and the end result will be much better.

You already have the most efficient carburetor ever designed.

Assuming your carb is original to your car and it's a 49 state vehicle, you should have a 7040200 if it's an automatic or a 7040201 if it's a manual. If your car is a California build it should have a 7040500 for an automatic or 7040501 for a manual trans.

If one of those is the correct carb for your car, have it serviced, don't replace it.

And thank you Gene.

I purchased a completely rebuilt Quadrajet for my 1968 big block from Quadrajet Power and with about 800 miles on it now, I am happy with it. I had him re-color the body and re-plate the other metal parts so it doesn't only perform like new, it also looks like new.

One of the most respected Q-jet guys around is Cliff Ruggles. He has written the book on rebuilding and modifying Q-jets. He also has an amazing parts inventory and has had some obsolete parts manufacured again for his business. Check out his website. He not only has tons of parts but after talking with you about your Q-jet, he will build you a rebuild kt specific to your carb. I got some parts from him and needed advice and he was readily available on the phone and cleared things up.He also has a Q-jet forum.

The best thing you can do is let the Team know your location as there are a number of highly qualified carb rebuilders around the country that you could bring your Qjet into that would make it run like new again. Also if you're not close to any of them we could give some recommendations where you could ship your carb for rebuilding, especially if its the OEM carb.
For a 1970 there will be a number that will be stamped on the carb's main body right behind where the throttle cable attaches to your carb. With the air cleaner lifted up you'll be able to see it from the drivers side fender with a flashlight.

And the owner is a good guy.
From what I read, he has a long turnaround time and my guy is a good guy too and turned my carbs around in 10 days and they looked and ran like brand new, your choice!!
