Viking (or Swede),

I have never done that, I have always heated the rod and then pressed the bolts in. I don't think it would be a good idea to hammer them in. Just my thoughts.

Swede, My wave loc bolts were somewhat of a tight fit in my 502's rods. I pressed them in on a hydraulic press. They really shouldn't be forced in too badly or you can add more stress to the rod. I also agree with the others , the rods should be resized or at least measured at a minimum after installing them.

I will be very politically incorrect ... If you really took a big hammer and "beat" those $60 rod bolts with it ... you should not be touching a performance engine, or probably any other engine as far as that goes.

Sorry, but thats the truth :(

Use a press, toast them in a kitchen oven over night at 450 degrees and have them resized!

And wrap them in aluminum foil too.

All you are doing is a "low-temp" thermal stress relieve to them.

BUT resize them!!

AND my 406 SB has rods done this way in it now.. They turned the prettiest gun-metal blue over night after all of any oils that were on them cooked off. B/c some air got to them is all.

I would like to repeat .... dont bother putting them in yet. When the rods are resized, which HAS to be done with ARP bolts, the bolts will have to come out anyway to grind the rod end.
