Hi all, currently I have 7/16 pushrods in my 454 with a comp cams XE268h cam. (781 large oval port heads) The setup is working well with the exception of the lifter ticking and sewing machine sound it makes. I’ve adjusted the rockers countless times to try and get the noise to stop but there always seems to be a slight ticking sound. I was wondering if maybe the pushrods were coming in contact with the heads or block. Has anyone else had this problem? Would it be worth it to change out the guide plates and pushrods to 3/8 inch? I spoke with the Comp Cams tech and he said that this particular cam makes that noise on some cars, but I still think it should be quieter then it is.

I believe what you might be hearing is the valve closing in the head. I've heard that due to accelerated opening and closing speeds it hit s the head a little hard on closing. Maybe somone else here can confirm this.

Theres many posts on here about the noise the XE cams make. Some people have the noise you describe and others dont. I guess it's pretty common from all the posts I've seen on here.

I Know my 7/16 pushrods are close to contacting but dont....since they cant "hit" the head only rub it i don't think they could make your ticking sound. Just the cam's sound.

I used to run the same Cam in my 454. it made the same noise. Thicker valve covers helped but did not eliminate the noise. That cam works good with those heads. Mine had 2.19/1.88 and bowl blend. It ran very well.
