Removing the body from my '70 chevelle. I was thinking of stacking cinder blocks on the outside of the frame near the firewall and rear wheels and setting the body down on 4x4's on the cinder blocks. Its the cheapest way I could think of. Also, If I'm not removing the doors is it necessary to use those door braces? I wont be moving the body a lot. Just lifting it off the frame, sliding the lumber under the body, then setting it down on the blocks so I can roll the frame out from under it.

You don't need braces or the doors.I did mine exactly as you described with no doors on.My floor pans are solid though. I am talking about a coupe.

I did mine exactly like the guy above me....with a cherry picker through the center bumper bolts and then with a cherry picker in the fender bolts on top of cowl.

Did the same thing, cement blocks and 4 x 6 lumber (overkill on the 4x6). Started with a floor jack but couldn't get it high enough. Ended up with Cherry picker at trunk and used 2 Come-Alongs at front suspended from ceiling joists. When I did the frame and underbody, paint on the car was still nice and didn't want to disturb it. I only removed the hood and front inner fenders. Pulled the radiator but left the rest of entire front clip intact. Came off in one piece and went right back about a month later as a complete unit.

If you have access to a two post lift it is THE easiest thing ever. Om my 70 I just unbolted the body mounts that came loose, sawzalled (verb!) the other seven, disconnected the steering shaft, the master cylinder, and the parking brake and viola. One and done in under an hour. On the 70-72s you have to watch the rear valence after you remove the back bumper. You have to roll the chassis foreward about 4 inches to clear it or the rear of the frame comes up with it. Guess how I know?
