Sad day today. Have to pull the 550hp 396 from the Malibu and put in a 327. Tried to sell it with the BB but everyone is scared of the power and fuel consumption. What is up with that??????? Guess the 327 goes in and then I will see if it sells!!!

BB Mike, The 396 is from a 69SS JK coded Chevelle. Was prof. built by Don Baxter from Baxter engines. Steel crank, solid lifter cam, 612intake and 610 exhaust. 12.5-1 compression. Heads have triple valve springs and long slot rockers. Wiend open intake with a Holley 850cfm double. Steel braided fuel line and high volume fuel pump. The builder to us that this engine will push 550 hp and redlines at 8200rpm. I love driving this thing on the street. Most guys just get out of the way
Shakes the whole car while idling!! By the way the builder thought this was for the strip and when he learned that is was going in a street car he laughed for about 20mins...

I know what's up with that, This is a time of four bangers, low compression vehicles, I'd would of left the bb in there, there are still folks out here that love that teeth cracking, paste you in the seat, try to grab the dash power, but you got to do what you have to I quess, my wife is scared the death of mine, but she'll go for a ride, needs the rush!

i would love to keep the 66 a big block machine but i have 3 big block cars and one has to go. sounds like I just sold the malibu (with a 327 and auto trans instead). i should get the go-ahead tomorrow and then the 396 and 4speed comes out. guess i will have to stuff it under the work bench till another worthy donor car shows up at the door
anyone know where a good home for this monster could be???

bb mike, most people comment on the cam. most good gear heads pick up on it right away. had someone this afternoon come and look over the 66. he wants the 327 and auto in it. i must be a lucky guy to be able to tuck away that motor. wife never complains either, what a bonus!!!!!!!!

gutz66 There is a 59 el camino, a 60 el camino, and a 60 2dr wagon for sale in the local buy sell and trade magazine. All with no power. Any one of them would make a nice toy. U.S. dollar is worth almost $1.50 in Canada right now. Heck of a long way from you though!

thanks for the info on the elky's but would rather find a closer destination. as far as the 8200 rpm that is no bull and have been there more than once and still running strong
