They actually remain cast in appearance, so shoot a little clear over them after it has been aligned. Either way they take a beating from all the road debris so chances are they wont look like new for long anyway. Jason.

While working with my Father at the company he works at (They Overhaul Turboprops [airplane engines]) I found this stuff called LPS. There are three grades, 1, 2, 3. One and two are more or less WD40. But if you use LPS 3, then it leaves a waxy film on the part. I was cleaning up the storage of spare parts (THANK YOU HURRICANE WILMA!) There were parts tagged from 2001, 2002, 2003, etc.. that have been sitting in puddles on shelves and moisture from Our wonderful 90% Year-Round humidity, the parts sprayed several years ago, still looked fresh! and with parts far these engines and gear reduction units, paint is no option.

On the tie rod links and clamps, I used a satin clear spray paint from Eastwood. Can't remember what it's called but in their catalog. It's holding up well. On tie rod ends, sway bar, spindles, etc., I used the cast-iron paint. Eastwood makes a paint to resemble bare steel called "Detail Gray".

I have not yet tried this personally, but supposedly Gibbs brand Penetrant is a wonder on bare metal. Seems to be well-known in the rodding community. It supposedly protects against oxidation as well as removing existing rust. Here's a link:
