I have never heard much talk here about Proform carbs...does anyone have any comments from first hand experience with them?? Lots of performance carbs use the Proform main body, and Proform builds a complete carb, yet all you hear about is Pro-Systems, QuickFuel, AED, etc....Their prices are pretty good, but Im wondering about the overall quality and performance.

I had a full proform (body, baseplate, metering blocks). It was a good quality carb, and performed well.
I no longer use it since I switched to ethanol.

I bought a proform body for a carb I had. I put it together and never used the carb. But if I had to do it again I would buy the Holley main body.

So are a ton of other things we have in our engines, and as I said, some of the big custom shops use them in their performance builds, so that really may not be an issue. I was looking for people that have used or are using them. But thanks!

Sorry John, I just figured someone with car that bad a** could handle (or use) a little ribbing...
Hey, you're absolutely right! I can for sure!! I know, I ask a lot of questions about a lot of topics, but lets just say I like to do my homework. The problem is, sometimes the more you ask, the more confusing things get:yes: So my friend, feel free to bust away!!:D

This is what I know about Proform carbs. They are assembled and tested at QuickFuel. I built a 496 for a friend last year and he wanted a new carb. So he ended up buying a New 850 Proform. The carb is good looking and easy to tune if needed. I pulled the bowls off to see what it had for jetting, PV and to make sure their were no casting flash in the bowls floating around. Every thing was clean inside. The engine started right up with no problems, no leaks. The only issue I had was the engine idled a little fat and sounded a little rough. But as soon as you opened it up, it responded great, rev-ed quicker that one of my home built 850"s.

I called Proform to ask question's about the carb's fat idling problem and how to tune/adjust it. Well Proform could not awn sere my question and told me to call Quickfuel. They told me that Quickfuel assembles and test the carbs for them. So I called Quickfuel and they told me the same thing as Profrom did. Quickfuel suggested I drill out all 4 idle bleeds .003 to start. This will help clean up the fat idling problem. Thats what I was hoping to hear instead of buying a idle air bleed kit. I was not able to work on the carb or open up the air bleeds due to the cold weather here in Michigan last November. Now waiting for the weather to break.

So if it were me looking to buy a New carb, it would be a Proform. The price is wright and I wish they had a 1050.

I have some friends with pro form carbs they work great. I tell you I would not recomend prosystems carbs to anyone. They suck and will not help you with the issues you are having with their carbs. sent mine back 4 time and had to sell it. they kept saying something is wrong with my motor. but I have a carb that makes it go 1 sec faster in the 1/4 mile.
