I have been looking for a set of heads fro my 383 build that will put me @ 400-450 without spending over $600 dollars. On e-bay I came across a vendor out of South California called Pro comp. From what I can tell they make their own heads, I was wondering if anyone has heard any good things about them.
I have seen that name in difrent places but dont know if they are the same folks.

you will hear good and bad on procomps, I have them on my 383 for over a yr now approx 7k miles with no complaints (other then i ended up with them on bait and switch from the builder) and it dynoed 510 hp and 498tq, Im pretty sure the machine shop who did my motor did some work on the heads

I think you would be hard pressed to find a set of heads to meet your performance expectations for $600.00. That is unless you buy some used but why would you do that? I have heard nothing but bad things about any 'Pro Comp' products. Perhaps you can save up some money and get some nicer heads? Your heads are going to dictate a large part on how your engine will run so dont skimp.

I have no expereince with them and i saw them on ebay as well. I`ve read alot of bad about them but then lately I hear the new versions are revamped and are better. Who knows for sure.
Just some quick input here, we have gotten some experience now with these "Chinese" pieces.

If you're budget dictates these heads, go for it, they WILL deliver. This is NOT "hand-me-down" info, I have the "sheets" here to back up the numbers!

The SB "off-shore" heads will make 450+ HP on a "base" 383" SB, 10.5:1 C.R., 236*/242* retro-hydraulic, and run fine on "pump"!

The BB "off-shore" heads will net you 600+ on a "base" 492"/496" stroker, 230*/236* retro-hydraulic, 10:1 C.R., and also run fine on "pump"!

Some of these SB's I have out for 4+ years now and NOT one single issue, the BB's are more recent only due to their more "later" arrival!

I do want to add here, I use/stock/test almost every brand of head on the market, from A thru Z.

(Add) I recommend against using these castings with the "solid-roller" platform's due to the basic fact we are usually "chasing" HP with these builds for the most part! And normally, my customers choosing this platform have some slightly "deeper pockets" (higher budget limits). They are "inside" these particular units yearly also!

Some of these left here with a 2 year warranty as part of a program I had a while back included along with the "cast-core" retro hyd-roller cam deal. AS I stated above, NOT a single "event".

Just to keep the "record" straight here, I buy NO assembled heads, we install our own brand of "internals", this IS "etched-in-stone" here! Not knowing what many "assembled" off-shore heads use for parts, we prefer to install our preferences here! This is my own opinion/rule!

Thanks, Gary in N.Y.

P.S. This is ALL "first-hand" info, not something we've "heard" second-hand! I have all the dyno sheets here to "back-it-up"!
