I am thinking of using a projetc car for an engine test stand... There is NO wiring harness, so I was thinking of just wiring the starter and coil directly to a battery (with a switch of some sort, of course).

I am going to be using a stock GM "breaker point" distributor...

Is the only ill effect just quicker wearing points? will I hurt anything else, coil? (I guess there's nothing else to really hurt anyway)...

I imagine I would have the motor running for 10-15 minutes (it used and doesn't need the cam broke in, etc...)...

If you wanted to you could just get a ballast resistor for say, a '57 chevy and use it. That would save your points and give you a constant steady dwell.
