I am looking at a set of Pro Comp H beam rods for a small block I am building.
This will be a somewhat radical small block with 150 shot of nitrous.
I am not normally a fan of procomp but given the price I was offered these for
I thought they warranted consideration.

Well being you can get Scat Pro Comp I beam for $300-ish is it worth a new engine if the "Pro Comp" rods fail?

Your talking $300 for the "Pro Comp" & $315 for Scat I Beam Pro Comp , Is a new engine worth saving $15 ????????

Butch - are you saying the procomps are junk?
These are brand new with the optional ARP bolts for 140 bucks
If the are I will pass all day long - like I said I am not normally a fan of procomp - I just have not seen much written on their rods and I know they buy out almost all of their products.

I didnt say they are junk

Wht im saying is you will not find many, if any people that use them so why use a possible "junk" item to save $15 ?

As cheap as Eagle & Scat are why try to get it any cheaper? Is that all the engine is worth?

In most cases with them cheap rods, I would run stock rods with stock bolts first

Scat $315-ish
Eagle $450-ish
Lunati $800
Crower $1000 & up
GRP $845 & up

There is no reason to try and save any more money that what Scat gets for the Pro Comp I Beam and its not made by Pro Comp

I wish Scat would rename their really pretty nice 7/16' bolt Pro Comp rod something else entirely.:(

There is so much NON-Scat Pro Comp stuff floating around, that it really gets confusing to the uninitiated.

The Scat I-beam Pro Comp rod with the 7/16" ARP hardware is a really nice value, especially the big block version. I have those in multiple motors with no problems at all. They're cheap enough, also, at right around $300.00.

The plain old Chinese knockoff (NOT Scat) Pro Comp brand I have NO experience with at all.

Just be sure it says "Scat" on the box and packaging, and you'll be OK for the most part.

As with ANY rod, check all the dimensions before installing.;)

Scat or Eagle.

I wouldn't set of $140 rods in a lawn mower. $140 with ARP bolts? I'd call up ARP and ask them if these guys (whoever they are) are ordering large quantities of bolts from them. At that price they're in counterfeit territory, IMO.

Obviously nobody knows what those rods will really take, but it's a major gamble to be the guinea pig.

Case in point, there's a local guy with a twin turbo low 400" windsor based on a Dart block, eagle (or scat) rotator that put over a thousand to the rollers, pretty darned impressive. Unfortunately, we got word this past weekend one of those rods is now hanging outside the Dart block, a sad situation indeed. He has many passes on those rods, but ultimately they were outperformed by the power. Would a better rod have failed in this situation? (unknown at this point why it broke) Possibly, but I bet he won't go back with the same rods again for his application.

After my first experience seeing a guy walk through the door with an Eagle SIR rod broken in the middle of the beam in a 6000 RPM engine, I recommend people stay away from inexpensive aftermarket rods. (The Scat's are fine, or at least I have yet to see one broken in a N/A application)

Not Cool....

I have the Eagle H-Beams with L19 bolt upgrade for extra strength in my 496.

ProComp stuff is GOOD!!!!

If you're looking for a doorstop or paperweight.

The connecting rod is the most stressed piece in an engine. Cut corners on paint and upholstery, buy the best rods you can afford.
