Hey,
I have seen these heads on ebay for about 800 bare and have had trouble finding any additional info on these heads. Maybe someone here can help me out.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/BIG-...010104459QQcategoryZ33617QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

I called the seller and he had little answers. My main questions were are the exhaust ports raised, is 2.3" the smallest intake valve, is 300cc intake runners accurate or are these Pro-Topline 320 heads in disguise?

I was told the exhaust ports are in standard location and that 2.3" is the smallest intake valve that can be used. He answered my questions, but I just didn't get a good feeling from his answers...I wasn't convinced he knew all the details.

Then I called Pro-Comp and noone from tech was there to talk with, but they told me their heads were "very similar" to the toplines and to reference their website for more details.

My gut tells me to stay away, but my wallet tells me to try and find out more info because these would look nice on my 496.

Does anybody know if these are toplines just reboxed?? Should I stay away? The lure of having a good set of aluminum heads for about 1200 finished is very attractive to me..

Sorry for the long post

Mine are not the BBC heads but the SBC heads. Right off I can say that I had alot of difficulty in finding info on the heads also. I found out alot of info by cruising EBAY stores and reading their specs and recommendations for stuff like gaskets. I found the ports to be smooth as cast and a good designed combustion chamber. I had to port match the intake runner entry to the intake gasket as well as my Vic jr intake as the intake runners on my heads were very tall. IF I did not do this there would have been a large dead spot for the incoming air to hit at the cylinder head entry. On the box there is a large green sticker that basically says to recheck everything for casting flaws and machining inaccuracies. Well I found that some of my seats for the valves were sunken into the head deeper than others. Not huge but still not accurate. Other than that I have to say that while my car was running it ran very strong and I am confident that it would have gone 12s although I did not get it to the track. I built it really expecting high 12s or 13.0. I bet it will go 12.5 or better. Anyhow, you get what you pay for sometimes and although I was initially ****ed off with having to port the intake and intake runners and then having problems finding info and the machining inaccuracies, I am now very happy with the performance of the vehicle. The heads seem to work excellent and my friend who is a very respected engine builder even said they will make great power out of the box. When he went for a ride he was even surprised. To me that was saying ALOT. He would be blunt if it was what we both thought it would be. Hope this helps a bit.

Pro-Toplines/Comp Cams are not the same heads as these Pro-Comps. We had a single head here a while back to "look" at, we weren't allowed to modify it as it was a "loaner". It's gonna take a tremendous amount of labor to get 'em ready to use. They are from the same foundry in Australia as the SB's that we've been installing on the base unit SB 383's that we build. We are able to make some 450+ HP with only about 2-3 hours of labor with these, and for a under a $1000.00 a pair complete, they do work and they're a fair deal. The BB's on the other hand are a "disaster" right now. What the foundry is trying to do is move them at a low number just to make sales. If they fly without too much "ink" (advertising), they'll leave them "as-is". If sales stay flat, they'll go back and reconfigure them, which is the best way to go. Let them put the time and labor in them to make 'em useable. As soon as we saw the "300" runner and the 2.300" valve, a red flag went up. Thanks, Gary in N.Y.
P.S The Pro-Toplines' foundry I believe is still in Auckland, N.Z. not Australia. I believe many of the "copies" out there, namely the "Professional Products" line and many others are all coming from "down-under". We think someone in the states is behind it all, but we can't nail them down.

Great info guys, I knew someone on this site had seen these things before. I guess it holds true.."that if its to good to be true"... The 300cc runner and the huge 2.3 valves made me real suspicious of these heads also.
Thanks

My main concern is I can't find out if the Pro-Comp 190cfm aluminum are a raised runner type or not.

I need a standard port to work with a Performer RPM intake.

i have pro comp bbc heads and they, well, i can take you for a ride. not to stir but i love em. even put them against my iron eagle and pro1 heads that were borrowed. they fared very well.everybody told me that my runners were too big but they work great on my ride but i also have a 70 camaro. my car is lighter than most others. my machine shop guy sold them to me for $1100 complete out the door valve job and all.now here is the issue i had with them, cost! after heads, new correct length length pushrods they were only shy of $400 of the pro1 darts. now i love a bargain, but why not spend the extra money and get darts? my machine shop guy has showed me the new improved design and they look great. but at what cost? everybody says the roof is too thin but i know a guy running them in his chevelle at a local track and a big solid roller. he has no probs as it is also a street car with 20k miles soaring. that is why i tried them. they also have a very strange intake port to me. its not straight through but goes from straight intake then up then down. my darts are almost straight shot to back of valve. if you are absolutely stingy and must save every last dollar then the procomps are a good deal to me. the exhaust port is also raised so some headers may give you grief. you can email me for pics or if you live near i can take you for a ride. also get a oval port intake trust me! i just tried an oval port on my engine and i bet i gained 15 horses. real seat of the pants gain.

just for the record, i think my iron eagles are the best deal going. there is a noticeable difference in power on my engine. it may be because of the smaller ports. mine are the 308cc iron eagles. the comps also say 320cc but hey are 339cc heads with valves installed. i have measured them! but the weight savings kind of offset the powergain over the iron eagles. seat of the pants there were no difference in the pro1 darts. not saying the darts were not more powerful but i did not have a dyno.
