power steering pumps-shims??

I had to replace my power steering pump last fall. So I had my old pump rebuilt rather than get a reman one that doesn't match the 70's pumps. Now the pump doesn't align with the crank pulley as straight as it use to. Is there a way to correct the alignment? Did I not get it in right or should you shim it. The pump works fine and belt doesn't come off.
