I have finished welding up the frame for my wagon. Now I want to have it powder coated. For those that done this what kind of color did you do? I can't decide between a gloss black or a more satin black or?. What other colors does anybody have pictures to give me some other ideas?

Personally, I'd paint it a 60% gloss black. Why? How do you touch up powdercoat, and it was never painted gloss black.

i could never understand the $$$$$ put into powder unless its a show car..with the products avail today rather put $ into the rest of the car like chrome hood hinges or kindig door latch or a/c...sorry

Id go satin to unless your gonna grind and sand all the chassis factory ugly to get it looking nice.

It would cost that much in product to paint it. I'd go with satin powder for that price.

Around here 650 with the rear end included. I have already cleaned up all the welds and built and disassembled the whole thing.

As expected 2x the price in Ca then IL, I suspect the same 2x in Ma. $300 for full frame. I would give him the whole car and just tell him to keep the powder off the outside sheet metal.How hot does it have to get to melt the powder.

Al not really, box of Tiger Drylac powder black is relatively cheap, it’s the custom colors and metallics that can add up. It’s high volume production work, ovens working 6 days a week, different than a small shop stuff. If your running black 3 or 4 days a week then it’s just a matter of filling up the slots in the book for profit. He does a fantastic job catering to car and bike people and anything small, I’ve seen all kinds of different things roll out of the oven. Certified Powder coat, Cera-cote, Hydro-dipping. Nice guy.

I did the subframe, suspension, radiator support and inner fenders on my '69 Camaro back in '98. it still looks great. I also did the frame, suspension and rear end housing on my '69 El Camino. Did everything in semi-gloss.

Curious does powder bake make rust pits look better or worse then paint. I other words does it fill in the small rust pits better then paint.

They can show but seem more blended as what I would call it. I’m sure sheen has a lot to do with that. It will fill a little but the same MiL thickness is in the good material.
The satisfying part of being picky about the quality and condition of parts, it shows on the final restoration finish.

My car had surface rust but nothing too bad. Here is before and after.

The price includes sand blasting the whole thing before hand which should get rid of any rust spots.
