This 66 also has the removable steering shaft flange. I hate fluid running all over. And the possibility of fittings not sealing up after removal. They don’t leak now. Can I get the rag joint out to access and replace the seal.

Are you asking if the seal can be replaced with the box still mounted in the car? I have the upgraded JGC steering box, but I believe the process would be very similar. Not long after installing mine, it started leaking at the input seal. I removed the steering box and replaced the seal on my bench. I'm sure it could be done, but I think it would be very challenging to change it in the car.

I've done a front seal on the power steering pump in the car. If you can get the intermideate shaft out of the way enough I'm sure you'll be able to do the upper seal on the steering box. You shouldn't have to unhook the lines and even if it does leak seeing the seal is at the highest point I don't think you'll lose much fluid. The one thing I did on the power steering pump was the shaft had a sharp edge on it so to keep the seal from possibly catching on that sharp edge and cutting the seal I wrapped a piece of thin plastic shim stock around the shaft and slide the seal over that and then tapped the seal in and then pulled the shim stock out.

Thank, I thought this might be possible; but didn’t want to try it to only find out it was not possible. On the plastic use for the shaft, I think you meant sector shaft not pump shaft, right?
I was just referring to how I put the plastic around the Power Steering Pump shaft in referance to use the same process on the steering box when you replace the seal. I never replaced a seal on a steering box but figured it would probably have a sharp edge on it too. The one thing I didn't ask is the steering box mounted up towards the front of the frame on a 66 like it is on a 71.
