i have a job interview with 2 seperate people & a hair folicle drug test with a major steel company (arcelormittal steel) thursday morning. i have been taking tests on & off for about 2 1/2 years now for them. i am currently employed with a major trucking company as a bodyshop manager. i like what i do, work days off weekend, good benefits, pay could be better, the mill would be shift work, along with good pay, benefits & union. i am 48 years old this year, not sure if a can handle the different shift changes and all the labor. but i think in the long run this is what i should do. the pay will be much better & retirement also. been weighing all my different options just don't know, i know my life will change dramatically if take the mill job. Jim

I have a friend who is a mechanic at a copper mine. He has been on rotating shift work for years and he hates it. So many days on days, then change to graves and so on. He never adjusts to it. His theory is that it burns you out and shortens your life so that they never have to pay your pension for very long.

I worked grave shift for a year and a half starting at age 45. I never adjusted to it and never slept well at all. Not natural. I was so happy to get back to day shift. To me there is not enough shift differential to make it worthwhile. Not even 30%, lol.
