I've never assembled a repo console. But I do have experience with many other repo parts. Many times they are far inferior to original parts. Perhaps the price of an original console is worth it.

I finished one about 8 months ago. It took a lot of patience from my son who installed it. Doing it again I would have OPGI assemble it. The lack of instructions were truly a mind blower. But, it cam out nice in the end.

I recently bought a replacement console rear light cover for my original 68 console from Ausleys, NOT bashing but fit isn't terrible IT JUST DOESN"T FIT! hangs over the edges so wont go flush but at least the screw holes line up

I imagine it's possible those consoles and parts are made at a single location and different vendors are selling the same parts.
Concerning the rear light cover I've had to gring them down in the past. So yes the fit is not good.

I'm thinking of sanding down the sides and anywhere else till it fits right

Don't know any other answer to make them fit right but if I recall correctly the portions of that piece that overhang the console come to somewhat of a point/ bevel edge. The more one takes off the thicker the cover becomes. So damned if you do and damned if you dont.

I think ausleys sell them to you assembled 🤷‍♂️
originals have gone through the moon on pricing
I’ve been watching them.
Yep, I bought one from them and it was assembled, damn thing don’t want to latch right but hopefully it will when it’s bolted down correctly!

What did you think of the quality? Solid? Flimsy? Dimensional accuracy?
Overall it was fairly solid. Door closes and latches well. Biggest issue lots of screws, all different and figuring out where to place them . Also we had to do a lot of Dremel work to have the bottom fit against the transmission hump carpet. Car was original auto column shift that had been changed to a 4 speed.

I guess it is always better to have to remove material with the Dremel than not have enough material to nicely match up with the floor profile! I have my doubts there is more than one company making these things so it is irrelevant where one is purchased. I have some of the pieces necessary for a 68/72 and am thinking about thrying to buy the main body to use with my on the shelf parts.

Any thoughts on the potential to "gusset" / reinforce the console body for additional stiffness?

When I was looking at them for my '67, I really didn't like the idea that the top was plastic rather than metal. Since I swapped to a T56 I think I'm going to use a 68 -72 console and leave the shifter more centered on the tunnel. At least the 68-72 repro consoles have a metal top. I thought about trying to convert a '67 automatic console but I don't have access to equipment to make a center plate. I have couple of the '66/'67 automatic consoles that I'll probably part with some day.
