The post about Woodward got me thinking where are those locations that every car enthusiast should visit. In other words were are the Mecca's of our hobby?

Here's my list (in no particular order) and please add your own.

1. Woodward Avenue
2. Bonneville Salt Flats
3. Carlisle
4. AACA Fall National Meet in Hershey, PA
5. Pomona

Where do you guys want to visit?

For the purest, try to get to any AACA “Grand National” event. It’s held in a different location of the country, once, every year. Our regional AACA club (Lake Erie Region) hosted one here in Buffalo a couple of years ago. I was able to work it (directing show cars to the right lots and locations) as a member of the club. It was amazing!

This year: July 5-7 (2007) — Kalamazoo, MI. AACA Grand National. Hosted by AACA West Michigan and Kalamazoo Valley Regions

Don Garlits Musuem of Drag Racing in Ocala, FL. Awesome place, I wish I would have had enough time to spend the whole day there.
Here is a shot of The Flyer (John Olson) holding up the Little Red Wagon for me to get a photo of it :D

Several people that I know really liked the Garlits Museum. Three different friends have been on various Hotrod Power Tours and still rave about them. Chris, a local friend of mine, ended up with his orange '69 Chevelle on the cover of Hotrod Magazine after one of their tours. I wouldn't mind seeing all the stuff that GM has stashed away in Detroit as well.

The Studebaker Musuem in South Bend Indiana is pretty cool in my opinion. The Henry Ford Musuem in Dearborn Michigan is a must see also.

I'd like to say the late, great Smokey Yunick's "Best Damn Garage in Town" in Daytona Beach, but I guess they knocked it down a few months ago to put up condos.  :(
I would've really liked to have seen that.

Also, the International Motorsports Hall of Fame Museum at Talladega Speedway is pretty good.

Bill Maverick, the driver for the little red wagon, used to have a website. There was a great story he wrote there about how he got into racind and his first win. The story is all about my Grandparents.

I couldn't find the story, but they make mention of them in here, Jerry and Gordon Williams.
