Ive been noticing them the last year all over the yard. I was okay with that, live and let live etc. However in the last week, they decided to invade my kitchen! I had some ant powder and sprinkled it anywhere that looked like they might come in. I think they just sat back and snorted the stuff and kept on their happy way.
So next up I got some ant spray. ive been spraying any hills and holes in the yard, especially around the house. One hosing and theyre dead. Next day the new generation is hanging out.
These guys are on my kitchen counter. Ive made sure theres no food around. I have a dish strainer and these things are crawling on the clean plates! Ive wiped, lightly sprayed under the counter. Ive got 3 dogs so Im leery about spraying too much. Any recommendation of a product that works? thanks. jim

10 parts sugar 1 part boric acid.Add a little water to make a paste.put it in their paths. They love it. They bring it back to their nest and it slowly poisons the whole colony.

You should be able to get it at Ace, or a drugstore. I got it at Walgreens, called PIC ant and roach killer. Most roach powders are a boric acid mix. Cost maybe $5 for a big can.

"Terro" ROCKS...... I got mine at ACE..... cut the opening, set it in their path and watch them swarm into it like the busy little bastards they are..... they'll take it back to their colony and in a day or two, you'll have little ant corpse's hidden somewhere in your house......... just be careful with your pets, you don't want them ingesting the stuff

Like terro any bait that is food will wipe them out in a day. They are actually very social creatures and share/taste food so a little will go a long way. i got some stuff at HD. wasnt cheap but took care of the latest invasion. Sprinkle a little all around the house. Not just where you think they are coming in. If you're at your wits end mix up a gallon of spray at 3x the recommended rate and nail your foundation and around windows and doors. obviously watch the dogs around both. not attracted to it per se but some dogs just have to lick everything

Hardware store or drug store. I get PIC ant and roach killer from walgreens for about $5 which is mostly boric acids and mix it with sugar for carpenter ants. Most roach powders are boric acid so those will work. Just don't mix it to strong or they wont eat it or will die before they get back to the nest. Set it out on their trails and by dusk you will have a feeding frenzy.

I've been using ortho home defense spray in and out with good success. For larger colonies in the yard I use the pebble baits. That in conjunction with spraying the baseboards in and out, all under the sink and making sure that the areas behind cabinets / fridge / etc are all sealed - not an ant to be found in my house and very infrequently in the yard anymore.

I have 2 dogs and 2 cats. Be smart where you lay it out, keep the pups away (ortho home defense is fine after it dries inside and outside) and start laying waste to them little suckers.

If they are black we call em sugar ants. If you have a recurring problem you might have a colony in the air space behind the brick. Grab a beer or two and just watch where they go. Then you know where to put down the bait we are talking about.

Check with your farm supply store. They will have chemicals others will not have and better advice on how to use it. Once diazinon and dursban left the market it became tough. Mostly you just move them anyway.

What is the borax is that boric acid? Problems in the summer here, too.

They chose the crock pot last yr. Only made a trail around the steel ring at the top bizarre. Clean as a whistle no matter what Id do theyd go back to it.

Stuck it outside same thing. they would just swarm the metal ring and round and round....forever. Strangest thing.
