Yesterday I started a thread about pin on cowl hoods and what kind of luck you guys had with them on street cars. I got some good responses, and now I actually have pics of the hood I can get. Keep in mind...this is for a 66 buick which has zero aftermarket support. Without having these suckers custom made at a premium...you're not gonna find one on the shelf anywhere. The fact that I found this one was surprising enough. Same with a factory hood. No reproductions. Rick in the other thread mentioned bonding the fiberglass hood to the factory steel frame. Definitely a good suggestion and Id consider it much more if it were easy to replace the steel hood. I've modified my steel hood for hood clearance, but I can "put it back" if necessary. Peeling the whole skin off is further than Id want to go.
Anyways...this is the hood. Doesnt look like it has the bulkiest frame Ive ever seen even for a glass hood. Also...notice its just a flat hood with a cowl scoop probably grafted on. I actually need the hood clearance...its not just a matter of looks here. So...Id be cutting a hole in it. Given that it doesnt look like the strongest hood I've ever seen.....would you guys expect this hood to be capable after having a hole cut in the middle? I wouldnt cut the cowl itself....just the underside of the hood so that the space in the cowl is useable.
Without much of a frame or mounting flanges to speak of...mounting it clean looks like it would be a job in itself!
