I just picked up an Alvarez RD20SC acoustic/electric in black. Picked it up used from a pawn shop in Asbury Park - a heckuva deal at $125 including hard case (that turned out to have a tuner and extra set of strings in it). Plays really nice, although I need to adjust the action a little lower. Great sound and pretty good construction for a Chinese made guitar. It should do me well until I get good enough to plunk down $2000 on a Martin.

I picked up a Mexican fender strat at a pawn shop about 2 years ago for $175

Axeman.... did you like the Strat? I also had a Mexi-Strat and I liked it alot - very easy to play and sounded great. (Use Carvin now...)

I like the strat a lot, Most of my guitars have humbucker pickups for that bluesy growl. But the strat sounds way better when a clean sound is needed.
