Time for some new wheels! as with previous car part purchase dilemas that I can decide one my own, I am setting up a pole, I will be going 17" and wide front and rear.

the car:

the wheel options:

tt2:

vintage wheel works V45:

the V45 spokes are a curved "D" shape like the tt2s but the spokes have a little less curvature from front to back of the wheel and the spokes are media blasted for an "as cast" texture, I would consider painting the spokes a slightly darker shade of grey to better compliment the green on the car.

not concerned about the price differrence between the two and not concerned about going with the standard tt2s as I live in a relatively small town and would be the only '70 chevelle on 17's around.
could go with or without the chrome wheel well trim

personally I have always liked the tt2s but think that the v45 may give the car a little more of a racy, agressive, meaner look...

help me decide and vote.

Do you have a pic of the V45's without the chrome lip, Id be interested to see them. However I think the chrome lip looks mean!
the lip is not chrome, it is machined and polished aluminum, probably a very similar finish as the tt2's lip.

Note that the V45's are a slight variation on the V40's, which are most well know here as the wheels made famous by 69boo307's ride. the V45's jsut have a little more curvature than the V40's which I feel would be a better fit to the slightly curvier lines of the '70 body style.

I say go with the American Racing Torq Thrust II's but with the grey painted centers. They are called the Classic Torq Thrust II's or CL205's. The paint has a slightly textured finish like on the original Torq Thrust D's. They are built to order so they cost a little more than "off the shelf" Torq Thrust II's but you said you weren't concerned about the price difference right? My best friend has these in 17" on his 65 Malibu and they look amazing.

yeah, that's the link that shows how the V45's differ from the V40's that are on 69boo307 (Brian)'s 1969.

I saw a few pictures of these and liked them but thought that if I wanted the "as cast" textured finish that the V45's took it a step further than the CL205's. Plus I think that I see a slight blue hue to the CL205's paint that might not be the best compliment to my car's green.

I do love the TT2's, but they are everywhere. The fact that they are everywhere, though, says alot about how nice of a wheel they are.
that's ture, and I think that's why I am hesitant. If I go with the TT2's they are guaranteed to look good, but if I go with the V45's I will be the guinea pig...

thanks for the opinions and votes, keep 'em coming, but please don't vote V45's just because they are not TT2's, I want honest opinions on what people honestly think would look better, not just what is less trendy.

V45's because I always liked the torque thrust D when I was younger. The TT2 full polish is nice but I still like the cat center of the V45. Another opinion i have is you need to jack up the front of your car an inch or two.

That picture is of Mary Pozzi's '73 RS.
Here's my '70Z with V-40's on it...parked right next to her car:

She has the curved-spoke V-45's,I prefer the straight-spoke look of the V-40's:

Here's my Chevelle with the AR CL205's on them (18"),they are solid grey,no blue-ish colors:

They may seem blue in these pictures but it must just be the camera...here's my buddy's '68 with the same wheels:

Whats wrong with 15" wheels?
Well, thats a personal decision...

Someone could also ask whats wrong with 14" wheels (afterall, 64-70 Chevelles only came with 14" wheels from the factory)...

But for me, several things come to mind:

1) 17's add a slight "modern" touch, but by staying with this style of wheel, it still has that "classic" look... A good blend...

2) many people (myself included) might like to run Larger brakes that won't clear a 15" wheel... This can be both a functional as well as asthetic improvment...

3) While not 'ideal", a 17 inch wheel with a shorter sidewall can give better handling than many 15-inch setups... Not only just the sidewall, but the tires themselves (how many companies make a wider 15" tire with good handling capabilities?)...

Again, its all about individuality... personally, I don't really want to follow a trend just to fit in, but after looking at lots of cars, I begin to see things I'd like to incorporate into my own car... One of those aspects is a blending of classic and modern elements...
