I have a pre-HEI distributor that is equipped with a Pertronix I Ignitor. I am installing this distributor in a newly rebuilt 327, and want to have the engine fire right up when I first try it. Wth a points ignition, I know how to set the distributor with the points just opening and rotor pointing to # 1 tower in the cap etc. How does one set static timing with an Pertronix Ignitor?

Can I supply 12 volts to the red wire and use my volt meter to sense the magnetic swtitching while turning the distributor body? How to connect the volt meter? I am guessing to connect one test lead to the black ignitor wire, and connect the other lead to the body of the distributor. I have heard thse things are touchy, and don't want to fry its little insides.
