I had some work done on my 70 El Camino SS 396 and apparently the mechanic either knocked off or forgot to replace the resistor wire to the coil.
The Elko started up fine when I left the garage and I drove a few miles home. I started the car again about a 1/2 hour later and let it warm-up at idle...the resistor wire started to heat-up and smoke...I shut down the engine and checked the wiring and re-attached the resistor wire to the positive pole on the coil.
The car started up and I started to drive around the block...I got about 1/2 a block and the motor quit and wouldn't restart(and the resistor wire was hot and smoking)... I have a Pertronics Ignitor in my stock distributor...Did I "fry" the Pertronics? What's the fix?
Thanks
