Just finished going through Ebay on one of my occasional views of 69 Chevelle stuff. Anybody notice that a lot of sellers are using the term "NOS" for stuff that really isn't? It seems to get more extensive every week. Most of the items are new reproduction parts or parts still available through GM. I can appreciate sellers wanting to draw attention to their listings, but it is misleading. For someone that might be in the market for a true NOS piece it can turn into a huge waste of time to read all the ads in full.

Anyway, just doing a little venting I guess.

I've noticed this myself and alot of times they will say "almost" or could be considered" NOS.to me there is only one type of NOS.
Its kinda like "MATCHING NUMBERS" is a loose term these days,it doesn't necessairly mean original engine anymore.
I guess its not about the cars or the parts nowadays, its more about the money and what you can pass off as original.
just my 2 cents,
Van

Don,
I have been reporting them to e-bay by way of thier "key word spamming" report, but they really do not seem to care. Maybe if more people report the stuff, it will change ? I doubt it :(

If they only knew that the "N" was for new, unused parts, that would be a welcomed sight.

I love the NOS parts on Ebay in the latest GM packaging, that tells me the part is still available and can be had at any GM dealer that will take the time to look the part up for you and sell it to you usually cheaper than the Ebay purchase with shipping.

What! You mean it doesn't stand for Neglected Old S&!#? No wonder the prices are so high. :D

I bought a washer bottle for my Firebird off Ebay a couple years ago. Guy says "this NOS bottle is what you want, not that junk reproduction stuff available." So I win it, with shipping it's close to $40. What do I get in the mail but a reproduction bottle in the new GM packaging, with the bar code.  People like that guy reinforce my philosophy that some people actually do deserve the beatings they receive.

What ever happened to NORS? New old replacement stock at one time meant just that. Those GM chevelle lenses for your '70 made in 1990 for example. It seems that anything that fits a collector car has now become NOS and jacks the price WAY up, like the air filter for a couple of hundred on ebay a while ago. I don't think it's right.

I was looking for a intermediate Emg. brake cable for my 70 wagon. Local part stores would order it !! $33.00 plus shipping. Got on the computer at Kenny Ross Chevrolet, and found a REAL nos at Preston Chevrolet in MD.
Cost $ 6.00 and $1.50 to mail it.Also I found out. On a real Chevy cable, it has little bonded on rubber. About 3/16" Dia. and 4" long where the cable goes through the " coat hanger " guides on the floor pan. I didnt know this. If anyone needs another one, It is at Modern Chevrolet in the Carolinas 800-334-0165. They are 97" long. Bob
