Well after reading and observing for a couple three years I finally decided not to let you guys hoard all the fun. I placed a call to Mr. Straub today and ordered a Hyd Roller with some 4063s for my 460 build. I Hope to end up with north of 550Hp and close to 600 on the torque I called out 6K RPM as my max HP range. I have some probe 18cc forged domes on scat floating rods all of which have been balanced. A cam from chris (specs not yet known) and 265 AFRs will eventually top it off. I am not decided on a manifold yet as I am concerned about hood clearance with my stock hood. I may go Air gap if it will fit. I wont get it back in the car in time to drive it this year but can't wait to get the engine sealed up. I have some 2" hooker headers that were on the car before teardown and I was considering using them again but I am not sure if they will kill my low end torque to the point I wished I went to 1 3/4...

BTW it is a 4 Speed with 3:73 12 bolt posi.

This is a street car, right.
I doubt you will have any clearance problems with a RPM performer or Air Gap.

Yes it is 95% or more street with an occasional trip to the track. I have some cut outs I like to open up and make some noise with at the track

With AFR heads and a Straub cam, 550 is certainly doable at at 6000.
Are you shooting for around 10 to 1 on the compression? My AFR 290's have 114 cc chambers, and with flat tops in the 540 it came in at just below 10 to 1.

My compression should be at about 10.5: 1. Zero decked .039 gasket and the partial cnc 265s come out at 107cc.

The only thing I would say, and this is just an opinion, is to spend a little more on the heads and go for the full CNC 290 or even 315's. Why?

They are certainly not too big for a 468 with 10.5 compression, and sooner or later you are going to want to spring for a 496 stroker. It's a natural progression.

I hear what you are saying but the wheels are in motion and this is the direction they are turning. My next engine will be a Mark Jones piece. That seems to be the natural progression ...

Truth! I have been watching from the sidelines far too long. I know my deal is the most exotic but to me it is all that matters if you can understand that. If I didn't already have a nice forged crank and some new scat rod that are standard stroke I would have gone bigger. Should be a nice street toy with a little pop. I was fairly happy with it as a true 454 that made 362Hp and 387Tq on a chassis dyno. That was a flat top piston with stock 049 heads professional products dual plane manifold and 2" headers.. I was jut going to change heads and intake but when I dug into it I saw the flat tops and that they were .016" in the hole with a .043" gasket and probably 122ish cc for the 049s. Less than 8:1 compression. Had to go all the way with a rebuild.

Ron,
Apologize for the goof yesterday. That was my fault. It has been taken care of.
Thanks Chris! Momma Moye was about to put the hammer down on me... Look forward to getting the parts.

You should easily exceed 550hp with those heads. Not sure how big of a cam you will be running, but in comparison I'm running some big valve 781's and an off the shelf Comp Cams 304HR, Air Gap, 2" Hookers and a 950HP and she makes 427hp/457tq at the wheels. That comes out to ~550hp/580tq factoring 22% parasitic and drivetrain loss. I have honestly been contemplating on swapping to the AFR 265's in order to get to my ultimate 600hp goal. Have a few more pennies to save then I will likely make the jump.

I am cautiously optimistic but I hope it all works out to be in the 570 range on HP. I will be happy with anything over 550 though. I will Chassi Dyno tune it next spring so the actual number will be somewhat of an educated guess based on wheel numbers.. Not sure what to do about the headers yet. Exhaust is fairly new and fabricated to work with the 2" Hookers. Hate to cut it up to swap to the 1 3/4 due to ball flanges and length difference but if it makes sense I will do what I gotta do.

Yeah, I donnow, I've debated the 2" pipes on my car for a while, and it still responds to lash tuning while only sportin' 439 ci. My car sits a bit high so clearance is not an issue. Run'em if they fit good I say! The hairs you split with that tuning are tiny. If you were looking to max 60' time , maybe, but not if you're looking to max HP.

...carry on.....
