I’ve got my dash out chasing some rattles and squeaks and noticed the parking brake pedal assembly rattles pretty good. Everything feels tight except the pawl that traps the teeth to hold the pedal down. When the brake is off it rattles pretty bad over bumps, etc.
Any tricks out there?

I think there is supposed to be a small spring that keeps the pawl(that is what it is called) from rattling and makes sure it stays in the notches on the park brake quadrant to keep it applied. Good luck!

Thanks. That spring appears to be there and the pawl is held down against the teeth of the quadrant. It rattles side to side. I guess I’m going to try to butter both sides of it with a thin coat of silicone.

Try some white lithium on the ratchet and teeth. Make sure your cables are fully adjusted.

What about splitting a plastic washer and setting it between the pawl and mount to keep it from rattling side to side? Leave enough clearance so it's movement is still free, but keeps it from rattling.

I couldn’t get a fiber washer between the two metal side and the pawl but I did add one to the end of the shaft where the push-look clip goes. I added some Sylglide grease to the pawl and it seems pretty quiet. I’ll know when I get the dash back in and drive it.
