Wife wants a pop-up camper. I went to see two today. They weight about the same 1900 lbs. Both have about the same options, but the Rockwood is $4K more than the Palomino.
Any experiences with either one?
TIA

Ive been in the rv business 7 years. Dealerships stock pop ups to make a quick sale so you will come back a short time later and buy a travel trailer. Do your homework.

Luis, will this be your first rv? If it is, there are a bunch of message boards with good info. One of the biggest mistakes I see are people rushing into an rv and buying the wrong one.

I think Palomino is a cheaper camper.
I say this from side to side comparisons with other campers and a salesman also told me.
We looked at travel trailers a couple years back and you could literally feel/see the floor flex in the Palomino compared to a Jayco.

Me personally, I've never been a fan of the pop ups. They can work great, and a lot of people have them. My biggest thing with them is that they are really just a glorified tent. When I go camping, I need protection from the wind and other elements. Wind is the biggest thing, since I go camping in the desert to ride dirt bikes and go Jeeping.

If it was me, I'd invest in a small motorhome instead. But that's my personal opinion.

What kind of camping do you plan on doing?

I vote used pop up. Cheapest way to get your feet wet. An RV/Motorhome is a real commitment. If you guys camp many times and find there are too many drawbacks to a pop up then I might go RV or perhaps if you were going to travel the US. Before I went RV I think I might even go a unit that slides into a pick up. That way at least the pick up can be used for other duties while not camping. Just need a set up for easy removal of the camper and a more heavy duty truck than a Tacoma.

Nothing fancy...just a few days during summer. Just getting old for the regular tent.

It would work good for yah. Some of them even have A/C units. My other thing is that it still requires set up. I like being able to pull into a site and be done! More time for :beers::beers::thumbsup:

I will agree though to NOT buy brand new. They depreciate like crazy in value. Find something that's a few years old and you'll save thousands. Again, just my personal opinion. I rarely buy anything new...just socks and underwear.
