I have a 72 chevelle....body work done and getting ready to paint...keep debating in my head..I have looked all over the net at different cars... Trying to decide to paint it candy brandy wine with white stripes with a little bit of pearl in them, or black with gold stripes??? Anyone have any pics of there cars similar to this??? Or a really sweet color combo?? debated like 5 differ colors, only thing I know its not going to be resale red lol...Would appreciate if anyone has some ideas? By the way the stencil kit they sell to paint the stripes it big enough to do a 4in cowl hood? THANKS!

Candy brandy wine with pearl.............one door ding later your trying to figure out how to fix it and find out you'll need to repaint at least the whole side. I'd go with stock colors if you want it to appeal to a larger crowd IMHO.

I don't think you'll be able to use the stencil kit on a 4" cowl hood. :noway:

The more obscurely to YOUR taste you make the color, the more of a chance you have at it not being your BUYER'S taste when you go to sell it. Nothing wrong with any color paint, as long as it is done right, by the way. ;)

Candy colors are a nightmare to get matched back up corrrectly. Use the stencil kit for the stripes but your going to have to compensate for the 4" cowl hood. I have done it on a 3" cowl. Once you get the front laid on correctly you can free hand and modify the rest. Please post pics when you get it done.

Body came out really good...But I bought a 4in bolt on harwood hood for it few years ago...When i put it on about 6months ago... had a huge gap in between the drive front corner. So i measured the hood from front corner to rear it is one INCH! short on the drivers side....Really upset me, lol should have tried it out when i first got it...if i known that i would have taken it back.... Other than that the car really don't have any flaws...we will see when its painted....Should i build the hood up on that corner or just leave it.....I was going to try to build it with fiberglass resin but i never used that stuff before and thought it would take forever to do...to build it up that much...Anyone have a good anwser???

I have the same problem with the glass hood for my GTO. The back of it has an inch gap. I am going to build it up.

My 70 was painted with the Sherwin Williams Planet Color line. It is Merlot Red over Silver base. It looks great and when it was painted I talked at length about the possibilty of not being able to color match panels later, but my painter said it would not be a problem. Well as you might expect the Drivers door got screwed up in the original spray and it needed to be redone. I was so afraid of how that would look but when the car was done I studied it from every angle in the Sun and in artificial light trying to catch some color shade difference, but it is a perfect match. Lucky? Maybe but it is good. My car is still apart interior wise and locked in my garage without the wheels so I can't get a pic for you but it is basically identical to the candy brandy wine. 4 coats of silver base, then 3 coats of black stripes, then 7 coats of red candy, then 4 coats of clear. Looks awesome and no stripe edge. You would expect the stripes to be red but the black shows right thru the candy. If the angle is just right you can catch a very slight tint of purple.......but you have to be looking for it, most will never see it and everyone thinks the balck is over the red.
