Hey, Anyone know the color or paint number Chevy/ GM used to paint/primer on the underside floor of Chevelle body and other GM products? Which was then sometimes covered with under coating. A reddish orange color?

Depends on what plant. Some plants where black, red oxide primer and even body color

I believe the Arlington plant was the only one that used the red oxide primer. Sorry, I don't have the paint code. I see people here making reference to using red oxide lacquer primer, also watch out for hue's of orange depending on the brand.

@keithb, I dug into my old notes, I don't recall were I cut & pasted this information on the web and who put it together...(unverified)

Primer by plant;
Most common colors found for 70 Chevelle.
Atlanta - mostly Greenish Gray primer.
Arlington -mostly Red Oxide primer (not sure if the bodies were 100% dipped in a bath of this primer?)
Baltimore & Kansas City - Mostly Rosette primer
Flint & Van Nuys - mostly washed-out Semigloss Black
Oshawa - mostly Back primer
*With changes in the assembly line these can vary by plant and dates, the brand of the paint mix and the worker who sprayed it on.
*Shades of these primers may have changed over the course of the year.
*Overspray on the primer could have also changed the color or tint.

When my new '67 SS arrived at the dealer, they asked me if i wanted it undercoated and I said yes, so I never saw the underside before they applied the undercoat! But, this is a fact that some dealers did undercoat new Chevelles back in the day! It was a KC build (6-9-67). I believe it cost me about $35! Hopefully, it prolonged the life of the car, but I have no way of knowing.

SPI has a nice red oxide epoxy primer.
They're the best!
I like the black. Get it wet and you see every little ripple in the body. Can be used as a sealer also.

That’s not correct.
