car has new fenders and hood, how much to paint car without body work and just a decent paint job

As much as the various body shops quote you.

Honestly. It depends on materials, shop rates, who you go through and it varies so widely, so many variables....

Could be 2k. Could be 4k. Could be 8k. Could be 1.5K

Shop rates, side jobs, skill set, what you want out of the car (individual shop and painter will agree with you on work and then set cost but this can and usually is not a firm number because inevitably things get "found")

Maaco - you could do all the prep and reassemble and might get away with 1.5K. Another shop doing all the prep and such that works on muscle cars might send you up around 5k. It just depends on varies so widely that you will be much better off calling or driving around locally and getting quotes.

What you can ask for is shop recommendations in your area and see what the guys come up with.

Also - we have a paint and body forum where stuff like this should be posted.

Good luck.

with no bodywork, just sand, tape off and shoot. I would think you could get it done for $2,500. If you want all the trim removed, that's extra, any body work at all, that's extra. But for a decent paint job count on that figure and go up from there

I just had my convertible done, very little body work had to be done, car was stripped of all chrome, when the bodyshop got the car, it still had to be blocked and a couple areas needed a little bondo, total cost $2800.00. It came out very nice. I have a friend that owns a bodyshop and they have been slow, so the prices are coming down. $3500.00 will get you an extremley nice paint job, providing there is not a lot of bodywork, and you take off all the chrome. These are Idaho prices, not big city prices.
