My console in my 66 has been painted with a thick black paint, doesn`t look stock at all. What could I use to strip this off of the plastic shell of the console? Thanks in advance to any advice

Easy Off oven cleaner - have used it on everything from plastic dash housings to taillight lenses. Test on a small area on the underside for peace of mind, but it should be fine. Spray it down, cover with plastic to keep it from drying out, and leave it on for at least 12 hours. Use a soft bristle brush and water after the paint has softened and wash it down. You may need to do more than one application, depending on the type and thickness of the paint. Good luck.

Easy Off is used by plastic model builders to strip paint, so it should work just fine. Another method is to use brake fluid (DOT3). I have stripped a lot of smaller plastic parts by just soaking them in a container with brake fluid, but I don't know exactly how to do a whole console. Brushing it on and covering it with plastic foil could work with this as well, or maybe you could cover it with rags soaked in brake fluid.

I have also used regular brush-on paint stripper on some parts, but I guess you can't do that on any kind of plastic. I had to strip the fan shroud for a Camaro once, and I just brushed the stripper on it, let it sit for a few hours, and the paint came right off. The plastic looked like new after some Armor-All, but again: The success will probably depend on the material so you better try it on the underside or on a scrap piece.
