I'm looking for a detail gun with a 0.8 or 1.0 needle. HVLP and I'm looking to spend around $50 - $100 on it. Anyone have any suggestions? It's going to be a gift for my cousin for helping with my Chevelle (I know I missed christmas... didn't have the $$$).

He's started doing more panel work for a local used car dealer. He's using a bigger gun with a 1.4 needle and thinks that a detail gun would be better, especially for the clear coat. A 1.0 tip should reduce orange peal right? That would cut down on his wet sanding time.

I'd like to only spend like $50, but it will get used alot so I don't mind spending more if it's really worth it... I know sometimes you get what you pay for, but I also know there are gems out there for a good price...

I found a Sharpe Finex gun for $90, Model FX100. Is that a good gun?

Thanks,
David

I've heard good things in general about cheapo, knock-off guns. Even Harbor Freight and flea market guns. You can get good guns for much less than $100. On various message boards I've heard experienced painters using the Harbor Freight guns and being impressed. Not quite a Sata, but $75 vs $400. I think Autobodystore.com has had a pretty good message board. I use an Astro HVLP (full size gun, not touchup) and have gotten great results. It was just over $100.
