Hugh made a comment about F-41 suspensions and oval bushings. He stated that oval bushings (front lower control arms, rear bushing) came as part of the F-41 suspension.

NOT NECESSARILY.

I have a verified 70 SS396. My build sheet and GM Canada list F-41. Last year I re-did the front suspension, new bushings all around. I also had to replace one control arm. The car had one oval bushing and one round bushing up front. I had to replace the arm with the round bushing and found an arm off a 70 Malibu (don't know if it had F-41). It was an oval bushing type arm. When I orderd my bushings from PST they weren't surprised when I mentioned the oval & round mix/match.

This isn't a dig at Hugh. This is just trying to help clear up some Chevelle myth with real life experience.

This is an excellent ques. I would like to hear about more experiences with round-oval bushings.

I just this second got off the phone with the man who owns the alighnment shop I use. He has been in the business 36yrs. He told me that as far as he knows there was no reason for round or oval bushings. He said when he gets one in for replacement, he has to look first before ordering a new bushing. Engine size or options never seem to make any difference. Could be one or the other on a 6 with air or a BB with no options, 2 or 4dr.

Two frame-offs on documented '70 Atlanta SS454 LS5 cars, both built in January, both had all round bushings. I have also heard it's hit-miss, and possible to have one of each on the car.

70 SS396 built in atlanta in december. Very few options, no air but did have turbo 400. Both round bushings.

1970 El Camino SS396, Built a Leeds (Kansas City) all round bushings. I recall NCOA doing a survey on this years ago but don't recall if they published the results.

Buddy has 1972 Malibu built Oshawa, oval bushings.
