I just installed my orig. intake back on my 68 396/325 ss.My question is,how difficult is it to install my orig. distributor. I have never installed one before and am apprehensive. What steps must I follow? Any input or advice welcome.
As an aside I rebuilt the guts of the distrib,carb(q-jet) was rebuilt.I am putting the car back to its orig. glory
Thanks,Brian

1. turn the crank until the engine is at top dead center. Piston 1 at top of stroke with valves closed. Balancer mark at zero on timing tab.

2. use long screwdriver to turn oil pump rod so distributor/rotor will drop into desired position.

3. There is debate on this......install distributor so the rotor points toward front of right side valve cover. The factory installed a lot of distributors like this and some in "other" positions.

4. Install plug wires.

5. Try to start engine.

6. Run plug wires to correct position. :)

FWIW, I heard that the rotor should point to #1 cylinder which would be the front right looking at the motor.
