Ok on my 66 2 door hard top I have replaced and repaired rust, on the floors. Trunk pans, floor pan braces, dash, windshield channels, and inner and outer wheel house. I have all the welds grounded down to the best I can. Now I still need to replace the full quarters, tail light panel, the piece behind the back window, the trunk gutter , and the quarter drop offs. I know that sounds like a lot of work yet and I am prepared to do the work. Now my dad thinks while I am this fair pull the body back off the frame and paint what I have done with epoxy paint, then seem seal all the welds, smooth it all over with body plastic and put a top coat on every thing, and drop the body back on the frame for the last time. Then start replacing the rest of the sheet metal, then go back over the new stuff and repeat the paint process to get it ready for the final stage of body work. Does this sound right, or should I do something different. I know this topic has been beaten to death in the past, but I need all the help I can get.:beers:

I'd at least epoxy coat everything. With mine I used POR-15 on the floors, and trunk so it's really sealed. Here's what I'd do.

POR-15
Epoxy
Filler (use the aluminum metal putty for anywhere that gets heat or flexes)
Epoxy
Paint
Undercoat (optional)

Make sure you don't have to disturb anything otherwise just POR-15 and epoxy. Finish after you're done with the rest of the car...

Also there's a special topcoat / adhesion promoter for the POR-15 to get the epoxy to stick.

You don't have to POR-15 it, but if it's ever going to see rain... I'd want the extra protection.

Also I used "Must for Rust" that you can find at Home Depot in the paint section on all bare metal. Be carefull welding stuff that's coated with it because it creates a zinc coating... Proper ventalation is a must! Also just use a damp rag with it, don't soak it. You just need a light coat to prevent surface rust.
