Guys,

Redoing the interior of my 71. I have it stripped down to bare metal inside. Sanded the floors, and ceiling. Rear driver floor pan has some pin holes from rust. Gonna weld in a new floor pan section (have somebody do it). Then por-15, Dynamat, carpet, headliner panels, seats, etc...

What is the order of reassembly you guys use? In other words did you guys run into any problems like, "I wish I had done that BEFORE I put the carpet back in..."

What about wiring? Do I need to make sure all that stuff is operational before continuing? I guess so if I have to cover it huh?

I'm replacing the dash as well.

Any advice is welcomed. Thanks.

If you plan on doing the headliner yourself it is generally easier to put it in almost last thing BUT before you secure the front seat. This will keep you from accidentally poking a hole in it while you are wrestling other parts. Keeping the front seat out makes it a lot easier to move around inside the car but still gives you the back seat to sit in while working out the rear wrinkles. I think other than that, just make sure you have all the wires cleaned up and ran accordingly (rear speakers, lights, etc.) It is also easier to work under the dash if the front seat is not in as you can just lay on the floor of the car without trying to contort your body to work under the dash (radio, A/C hoses, etc.)

Also, make sure you put in all the bolts for the seat, seatbelts, etc prior to laying the carpet (same goes for recovering front seats) so that you can find the bolts and just cut a small x on the bolt head and pop the bolt through. 10 times easier than prodding around from the top looking for the hole.

Your rear speaker wires (if you have them) would be run under the carpet or under your sill plates. I put the headliner in first myself followed by the door panels and then the dash. Get your dash in and start checking all your lights, blinkers, etc before buttoning it all up. then the carpet with the seats going in last.
