Does anybody know what option code is for the wheel opening mldgs on a 71. My car had them on it when I got the car, but I can't find any option code on the build sheet that makes me believe the car left the factory with them. Also, my car is an original SS 350 car, and has the raised SS hood, but it isn't a cowl induction hood. When I got the car it did not have hood hold down pins, and I was wondering if it should have, or if that was also an option on top of the SS hood and did not come standard with an SS hood?

Wheel opening moldings were included on the Malibu series along with rocker panel moldings. The SS for '71 was RPO Z15. They came with a specific bunch of moldings and moilding deletions e.g. wheel opening moldings but no rocker moldings...

For 1971 ALL Chevelle SS models (C.I. & non C.I.) were supposed to come with the hood pins & lanard cables as standard; in 1970 they were only factory included when Cowl Induction was ordered. Their have been some very early production 1971 models that didn't include them.

The Heavy Chevy included the hood pins and the domed non-cowl induction hood as standard. The Heavy Chevy was added mid-year 1971.

Thanks Cameron for the info. I know most SS cars I ever saw had hood pins, but mine didn't. I knew that my car had been wrecked at some point before I got the car, but I was never sure if my car just didn't have hood pins from the factory, or when the hood was replaced, the repairer didn't put them back on. Does everyone else here agree with Cameron and concur that ALL SS cars with raised hood in 1971 came with hood pins regardless of whether it was a cowl induction hood or not?

That would explain then why my car had the wheel mldgs. It is a Malibu SS, and as you stated, a Malibu would include wheel opening mldgs and rocker mldgs, and the SS pkg would then turn around and delete the rocker mldgs.
