Does anybody have experience with the OPG reproduction dash pads? How do they fit and look? I searched the olds posts and found one negative comment about them but no details of the problems. Do they have the right contours to fit nicely around the dash bezels and in the corners?

I just got one for my 64 and it should be the same I would think. They look great and fit OK. I am relatively happy with mine. The only thing I can tell you is that they are a little thicker than the originals, mine is actually touching the windshield at the front. Mine was red and the color was a little off so I dyed it with the correct color. Good luck.

I guess it comes down to how fussy you are and how much you're willing to pay. If OK is good enough, then the repro will do. If you want near perfect, then send off original to Just Dashes along with about $450. I think Year One was advertising a dash pad of "concours quality", but I haven't heard of anyone using one yet.

Thanks for the input. I do not have an original dash to have redone since my car did not come with the padded dash.

I talked with James Hinshaw and he recomended not adding one to the car if it didn't already have one. He said he would sell me one, but he said all of the reproductions weren't any good. He should know since he's in the business of selling Chevelle parts.

Based on James's advice, I'll just stick with the naked original.

Why not just look for one on EBay?

Had not heard that Year One had one like that...nice thing about them--if you are not satisfied with the item they will even pay for the return shipping. Somebody sure needs to build quality pads cause the ones I've seen are poorly constructed. (studs misaligned, ends lacking original contours, speaker cut-out poorly shaped etc) Just Dashes is an excellent alternative to that.

The reason I'm giving up on the padded dash is that I don't want to drill holes in the metal and be stuck with a poor fitting pad.

Initially, I didn't like the padded dash since it looked like an after thought with the deep cutouts for the defroster vent and the speaker grille. That's why I didn't put one in when I was restoring my car.

I had recently bought a dash pad made by a company called Dashes Direct. This dash was just like the original in the way it fit and in its construction. I have seen the dashes made by OPG and there is no comparison to the one I purchased through Ausley's Chevelle. I am glad to see that someone is finally taking some pride in the way these dash pads are made. The dash sells for around $150, no where near the $450 someone else spoke about. I would recomend this new dash pad to anyone.

Sorry to bring this post back up, but are you saying the dash you purchased through Ausley's Chevelle wasn't any good at all? Mine is horrible and I don't see any way of making it really fit so I'm just making sure you and I are in the same boat..
