Just got back from a test flight.
Runs great----hauls a$$

But I believe the years of sitting has taken it's toll on the cooling system.
When it cools down some more, I'll have a look at the circulation.
Radiator might be plugged up, or water pump might not be doing it's job.
Picked up a new battery and alternator before it got here---was warned
that it might not start.
I think bad battery----ammeter was showing +30 trying to charge.
Temp and fuel gages not working so I will pick up a temp gage tomorrow and hook it up.

Wants to pop out of 2nd under coast ----- who needs second?????
Might explain my uncle going from 1st to 3rd when he drove it (I remember this from the time I was about 12)

A couple of small cancer spots------nothing major
Overall-----very happy about this coming to me
A couple of weeks and a couple hundred $ and it should be ready to rock

What happened to the original 289 HiPo engine
It was about 1983 that Jim put a new engine in the car.
More than likely he sold or gave it away to one of his racing buddies.
Jim was into drag racing as long as I can remember.
I still recall his old fun cars

57 Fuel Injected BelAir that he had when he married Gail
got rid of that so Gail could have a 64 GTO.
The GTO went away for a 68 Ford Country Squire
(bad car---killed my cousin and her friend and Jim & Gail spent a few months in the hospital following that wreck)
And then Caddys after that
The driver that just dropped off the Ranchero told me that she is now driving a Delorean:D

But-----in about 1990, I sold him a 65 289 that had about 40k on it.
THAT engine will be finding it's way to San Antonio very shortly.
Still on the pallet and shrinkwrapped as he got it from me

That's pretty cool. Looks like it might need a gas cap. (leaking?) Great looking ride.

LK
Delivered with a VERY full tank-----gas gage was not working and I could not even get $1.00 woth of fuel in it. Getting warm here and the fuel is expanding.

Nice truck! I like those things. Didn't know you could get a HiPo in a Ranchero back then? (or Falcon for that matter) Don't know when they started making a GT version (67 maybe when they used the Fairlane platform??)

Waterman Racing Engines

Jim may have had an association with them, as he was a tooling and machine guy.
I know he made some of the tooling for blowers and turbochargers way back when.

I just recently found out that he also made the tooling for for several
Falcon reproduction parts.

He was one of those 'behind the scenes' that were important to racing.

BTW----my neighbor's son has a business that reproduces stickers and decals.
I will have those reproduced and save them for when the Texas sun and heat
kills the ones that are there.

I have no intention of doing anything to this car that Jim would not approve of.
It will kept and maintained just as it is with the exception of some paint touch ups, and a front end rebuild.
