so I can bash them, right? :)

Just got a message from a buyer asking about the 53 Merc grille they bought. HAven't gotten it yet. I sent it out on Monday, and there is zero tracking information uploaded, meaning it didn't even make it to the post office for its first scan.

This on top of a refund I had to give last week for the same reason. And now I looked up the packages that went out today, and all but the largest one have tracking info.

The common factor here is they are being picked up at my office by the carrier that drops off our mail.

I smell a rat. I'm going to have a conversation with the Postmaster here pretty soon. This is starting to cost me $$.

My packages are always delivered on time by USPS, but I drop large packages off at our small local post office and have the rural mail carrier pick small ones up at the house. I am on a first name basis with the postmaster and the one other employee at the post office and have the cell number of our carrier. I would suggest finding a post office that does the job correctly and use that one exclusively, in the end the extra cost/hassle may be cheaper and protect your reputation.

After I had my first and last problem with the post office ebay and Paypal, I decided that everything I mailed out was getting Delivery Confirmation, and not just the kind that comes for free when you print out your own labels, but the kind that you get when you take the package to the post office and pay the 75 or 80 cents for. I realize that it is a temptation to use the free pick up and free delivery confirmation you get when printing your own labels, but the problems you are having with your post man are problems I eliminated by taking my packages to the post office myself. The counter people like to tell me how much time and hassle I can save but they don't realize how many problems a shaky or dishonest carrier can cause.

see if your mailman has an ebay account where he always seems to be selling stuff just like the stuff you just had him deliver a few days before..

Maybe the packages bar code isn't scanable! Don't assume it never made it to the PO because of no tracking scan. I work at the PO and see tons of bar codes that look perfect and wont read in the scanner. Or some idiot people who put the label the over an edge of a box!?? That wont scan. Or wrapped around a mailing tube?? That's smart too. Im not saying you did any of this, but there may be a reason, and the package is still in the delivery process. Did you ship it Priority or Parcel Post? How far is it going, etc.? You sent it out Monday, and you are bitching on Thursday. Probably got sorted Tuesday. Give it a little time.

Tracking on one package showed up overnight, but the one from earlier this week is still MIA. Delivery confirmation doesn't help in this case, because these two packages never made it to the point where they would get their first scan. I figure, either the label fell off or they got stuck under a table or in a room or the back of a truck or something. Or stolen.

Exactly my point. When I take my packages into the post office and have them add delivery confirmation, they give me half of a two part receipt that proves I mailed the package, and that they scanned it into their system at that point. It's not the easiest or cheapest way to do it, but since I don't trust most people to do their job correctly, this way of doing it covers my a$$. I really don't care what happens to the package after I drop it at the post office since I insure the hell out of it. If it never makes it to the other end the insurance will make me whole again. It costs a little more but since I make crazy mark up on every item I sell, the insurance and delivery confirmation just ups my cost of doing business by a small percentage.
