So in my annoying convo with Keisler, they said they're out til October before a new SS700 would be shipped (yea right). So since Mcleod's M800 is a dead dinosaur now, where should I get a good TKO600 kit?

I'd like to get the kit with everything I need like a new driveshaft, crossmember, bellhousing, etc....

Thanks for your expert help :D

Heya Jeff, nice to talk again. Yea, I went MIA for a year as I was dealing with my greedy employer and my union in bargaining. It was a rough and stressful year. We now have a contract (an ok one) so I'm back to spending a bunch of money on my car haha :hurray: (and my house). So I'll be on here a lot more and doing some work on my car this Summer and Fall. My MJ467 is running awesome btw!! Now I'd like to go to SoCal and go racing but I need a damn 5 speed. Keisler guy just told me he promises me Septemeber for SS700 tranny but I'm thinking NOT :noway:. So I'll check your link and possibly a Gear Vendors OD 4 speed.

I had one faceplated by Liberty for my Beaumont and just received a new faceplated one for my Camaro. Nice people to deal with and I received my new one in a little less and three weeks. They don't have kits though but its really not necessary. A drive shaft can be shortened locally and a stock crossmember will work. I used these guys for a crossmembers though on both cars. http://www.crossmembers.com/ If you don't know of a driveshaft shop call a local heavy duty truck dealer, they are always getting shafts built and can tell you who they use. The only issue would be the speedo cable but you should be able to get one built locally. I think Liberty supplies the drive gears. Here's what faceplating will do.

I've had price quotes from both Keisler and Hurst Driveline recently for a TKO600 kit. The best price by far was Hurst Driveline. Way better.
And it still needs cutting of the tunnel right? I keep hearing different things  . I'd rather not cut her up.

A standard TKO600 will require cutting the floor a bit, Keisler says theirs doesn't.
The face plating looks cool but I don't know about that on a street car.

I dont care who says what - unless you are putting another muncie in the car you WILL end up cutting somewhere. Even Keislers "perfect fit" kits ship with a patch panel. Always get a giggle out of that - perfect fit....but here's your prefabbed patch panel for where you will need to cut it.

You might luck out and be the one in a million that can slap a 5 / 6 speed in the car without cutting somewhere but I have yet to see that done. Could happen I guess....but I would say that if / when you order, no matter who says what plan on cutting and patching.

Keisler used to say the same thing about their TKO's....would talk to the guys at Hurst drivelines who would also giggle at that statement because I truly dont know of anyone thats just dropped in a TKO in their Abody without tunnel work. they may be out there....course, Leprechauns may be out there.....and fat women that can limbo may be out there......but I aint never seen em.

Hmmmm....I just put in an RS500 in and did no cutting what so ever?
Buy a lotto ticket.

Honestly, forgot about the RS500, same dimentionally as the 6 / 7 right?

And I have heard of people doing this (only a couple though) with the RS5. Touche' :D

RS600 included patch panel with the perfect fit kit. TKO ofcourse.

Probably too many variables in these cars with body mounts and such. Plus, I like to bytch cause the whole thing with Keisler still irritates me. Usually takes about a year or more for me to let things go. ;)

I am here to tell ya that I put a Richmond non OD 5 Speed in a 66 Vette with no cutting on the floor. The shifter came thru the stock console DEAD NUTS where it was supposed to be. If it goes in a Vette W/O floor pan mods it will go ANYWHERE...believe me. Loading it in was a ROYAL PIA in the Vette because of the non removable crossmember but I (and other guys with other Vettes) made it work. Pics to prove it if anyone is interested.

Had to fool with some things underneath the car that would give "True Corvette Believers" heart burn but that 5 Speed shifter was totally indistinguishable from the stock Muncie. I put one of those dummy Corvette Muncie shifters on top of a Hurst shifter and that was that as they say. I also did a simple mod to the mounting plate that goes between the Hurst and the tailshaft to lower the shifter "box" 1.5 inches. 3 cuts with a Sawz-All, two simple welds and the linkage dropped right down to Muncie shifter height.

This same mod also allowed me to use a Richmond (again non OD) 5 Speed in an A-body. Minor mods on the crossmember were again required to dimple the "tube" that runs across the car between the frame rails. If the A-body in question is a factory stick car with the hump this is a "no floor mods" install.

I know the Richmond is not sexy enough for a lot of folks but considering all the grief with Keisler, the McCloud "no show" 5 speed and the Syracuse "Vaporware" Muncie my experience with Richmond was VERY GOOD. I know I know they don't shift like a Muncie sure sure...I doubt that is really true but I don't drive that way anymore anyway.

Any A-Body guys looking for info on this let me know.

OMAN!! You read my mind, I just got off the phone with Richmond and talking about their Super Street O/D 5 speed!!!! He said it DOES NOT REQUIRE CUTTING on my Chevelle. I do however have to elongate my existing shifter hole a bit aft, but BFD haha. That's nothing compared to the TKO. So he said to call Summit or Jeg's and order one. Oh, and he said I would need a TH400 yoke as it's bigger than the Muncie and I will have to "adjust" the crossmember to realign the driveline angle. I think I could do it in a day. It's a .77 5th gear which will be fine. 23% better gas mileage sounds good to me :hurray:. I'm super excited about this and can't believe not more guys use this bad boy.

Here's the one I'm gonna buy as soon as I get my contractor to finalize my garage work bid haha. :beers:. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/rmg-7020510b

Hard believe just minor work on the vette needed. Good work. Sweeeeet!!!

Thanks Brandon, I think we spoke 2 years ago when I was engine shopping. I ended up getting my MJ467, but appreciated your time. I have mentioned you to other car guys about engines btw. I think I'll be going with the Richmond 5 speed unless I start hearing some hrror stories but so far 4 guys have told me they love it. TKO just needs to much work and mods for about the same price.

Hey old buddy! Well I'd agree with you that I don't think I'll get away with no work at all. After speaking to Richmond, they say I'll just have make the shifter hole a bit elongated rearwards because their shifter placement is 2 or 3" to the rear of the Muncie w/o console. I'm stoked about this though!!! No major tunnel work and I can get it in 2 or 3 weeks according to Summit.

The elongation point makes sense..the O/D units are a bit different than the Non OD that I have. About the TH400 there are at least 2 different yokes. They are different lengths but the same size where they go into the trans. As to the Vette that was easier from a fit point of view than I thought. Putting it in was tough. I had the engine out and did the trans / engine install in one step. Otherwise I cannot imagine what a PIA it would have been. The Richmond OD comes only with the Long shifter..Great unit.

Driveline angle adj. I cut the mount off the crossmember, flipped the mount upside-down and welded it as low on the C-member as I could and built a gusset with some angle iron. With it mounted way down there the trans angle was easy to adjust with flat washers / shims on the trans mount bolts. I just added or removed shims between the crossmember mount and the trans mount. The trans mount bolts direct to the tail shaft housing as would be expected BTW. It was a bit of an iterative process to get the angle but it was easier than measure / weld find out it vibrated then cut / measure / weld again.

Anything I can help with let me know.

Well, that is about the same price that Keisler gave me for their "Perfect Fit" kit, The Hurst Driveline kit was about a grand less.
I'm glad you found what you wanted.
