I have a 454 Mark IV block from Bill Mitchell engines and I was interested in installing an oil sending unit. On the 396 it replaces the sensor port was located above the oil filter. On this new engine there is plug above the oil filter, but it seems to be about 1/2" in diameter (bigger than I was expecting). I thought I was looking for a 1/4" port. Is this normal?

Where can I get fittings to support the traditional 1/8" sensor?

Thanks for your help.

You could look in the air tools section of a store and look for a reducer. I believe you can get a steel reducer that would work.

Otherwise, you could use a brass reducer that can be purchased and most hardware stores. I have used these before but I always get a bit scared about brass spurs getting into the oil. On the plus side, I have never actually had that happen.
