I have NOS oil sending unit and was hoping someone could tell me what, if any Chevelle's or Chevys in general it fits. The odd thing about it is its listed also in the Pontiac parts catalog but I haven't found any Pontiacs it fits neither. It shows it as a transducer with rally gauges. The part number has been superseded at least twice from 370801 to 547034 to 14039612. The one I have is the latest number. The difference is all the ones I've seen has a spade terminal on top and this one has an old style "nail head" top. The only thing I can figure is its an old unit in a superseded box buy GM.

Thanks

That part is like Johhny Cash, been used all over and superseded many times over.
The latest number is the flat terminal type. Your assumption is most likely correct.
Put each number in the search bar and enjoy. GMPartsWiki -

I don't know enough about what type of connector was used on the other models.

Yes!! correct. but the difference is they ALL have a spade terminal. This one has the old nail head connector. It has to be correct for something specific. I believe the very early 370801.

I checked Wiki and found the 2 superseded numbers over the years and every replacement from GM and Delco, along with ALL aftermarket, are spade terminal. No actual pictures of any of the old numbers.

Those old spade terminal sending unit's used those connector's like you have described above.
If it has a small "U" shaped area on one side towards the bottom of the connector, it slides on the nail end near that U shaped opening at a 90 degree angle to the nail and is held on like that. Its not easy to describe without a picture but I'm terrible with pics.
It must be in the assembly manual as I have seen a bunch of cars that had the same type of connector on them.

Yes! I know exactly what your talking about. The connector is on the water temp sender on my 65 and 70 GTO's, Plus I was in the parts business for 44 years starting in 1968. my first 10 years was
with an independent Delco distributor and Jobber. We sold Delco EVERYTHING Delco except Brake Shoes, for some reason. I know the connector will fit the spade and that's the ONLY choice now,
but someone who is an original fanatic would love this. I just don't know what cars came with the nail head. I'm pretty sure the 370801which was the original # and the parts catalog shows that number fits a 70 GTO and other Pontiacs but My 70 has a molded rubber straight connector that is definitely for a spade.

 As I Recall: The Spade style is for Idiot Lights and the Nail Head style is for Gauges.
No. some senders, oil and temp, started off in the earlier years with the nail head style. superseded GM parts and aftermarket ALL switched to spade on most. The nail head connector will fit either. I know at least one person had mentioned in a Chevy forum a long time ago, that he had to replace his original nail head with a spade type because there are no nail heads to be found. I found one.
