Hi all, Dan, the FNG again. I'm looking at buying a 71 El Camino and there is an oil leak coming from what appears to be the engine rear main seal. I've read some posts, and it may also just be from the tranny as the owner worked on that recently.

My question is, can the rear main seal be replaced with the engine in a 71 El Cam or is it really something that needs the motor pulled?

Since I don't know when I would be able to afford to replace the rear seal, can I do any harm driving the veh with the seal leaking (making sure I have enough oil in the engine)?
Thanks for the advice,
Dan'o :}
