Okay guys... i made a mistake and bought a ford ranger late last year in nov. or something like that. The guy that i bought it from gave me a folder saying the smog cert. was in it. The next day the trans blew up on me, i called him and he wanted nothing to do with it. i spent a few months rebuilding it on spare time. I put new exhuast on it and tuned it up. The smog cert. he told me about was never there. SHAME ON ME! Took it to smog it and it failed. I contacted him and he never answered or returned my phone calls and messages.

I changed the timing and got new manifold gaskets. Took it to get smogged and it failed again. Here's the second mistake i made, i let the owner put that i bought it from him for 150 bucks when really i payed 700. How would i go about doing this legally/ and or trying to get a hold of him?

What would you do? Thanks guys

im not looking to put anymore money into it. i have cats laying around all over the place and i could weld on 6 cats, but then it wouldnt pass visual. I've already put a lot of time and frustration into this POS and i just want it gone. I bought it needing it, then right after the tranny blew i didnt need it anymore. so now im just trying to get back the money i spent buying it. It's his responciblity to smog and i want to force that upon him

Isnt the sale not valid in CA? Thought it was LAW that the vehicle had to pass smog and be shown / documented BEFORE it could be sold.

I would inquire with DMV. If the guy flat out lied I dont believe its a valid sale.

How far off from passing is it?

You could add air to the outgoing exhaust to lower the parts per million. There are also a few additives that you can run the will change it. I went to one shop that let me find the sweet spot with the A/F and timing while the probes were in place. If all else fails, register it in another state :)

i know... i should have never let him put 150 as the bill of sale. Oh well you live and you learn. I think im going to register it as non-op and sell it for 1000 and take pretty much any offer 300 and up
