Friend of mine has a 93 Olds, the power " pulsates " every so often. With a DVOM on the battery you can watch it go from 13.7 to 12.25 volts.

The lights go dim, get bright, the engine starts to run bad also when it does this. It doesnt do this all the time, but does it more so than not.

When it does do it, it will drop from 13.7 to 12.25 instantly then take 3-4 seconds to get back to 13.7 then drop instantly again to 12.25. Its as consistant as a heartbeat.

A clicking can be heard when the voltage drops down. Hooked up a cable from the neg. post to the alt. case and it didnt change anything. Changed the alternator and it stopped for 2 days then came right back.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Just a guess but sounds like something that is shorted is trying to start. Like an electric cooling fan. If it has a thermal breaker the breaker will open, cool off, close, heat up, open, etc.

Like I said though it's only a SWAG.
